Chartered Membership Programme

Route to Chartered Membership (MCIOB)

The CMP is a progression route to full Corporate membership of the CIOB with the right to use the designation MCIOB. It is designed for candidates that typically have five years experience within the built environment with experience of managing people, processes and technology.

We recognise that there are many people in the sector who have gained the requisite knowledge and management skills to merit CIOB membership, though they may not have the full academic qualifications.

Construction professionals who fall into this category can instead work towards becoming full chartered members (MCIOB) through a structured programme designed to help experienced construction professionals demonstrate their competence. It combine elements of study too, to help candidates develop a strong understanding of the principles of construction management.

Getting Started

Application

Your first step is to contact Construction Management Training in order to be accepted on to the programme. Once accepted you will sign a Provider Approval Form which will enable you to apply on-line for Student Membership. There is a £53.00 registration fee at this stage, paid directly to the CIOB.

All candidates must be in the membership prior to starting their course of study. For those who are already in membership, they should email the form to examenquiry@ciob.org.uk

The Programme

Course Study

The programme requires a period of course study which is undertaken by Construction Management Training either via workshop learning or our new Webex Video link distance learning method. The modules covered are

  • Construction Technology
  • Health, Safety and the Environment
  • Contracts and Commercial Practice
  • Management

In addition to the modules we offer guidance and support and pre-assessment and submission of the Professional Review (£460.00 + VAT).

CIOB will provide you with access to an online learning system called Moodle. You will find all Construction Management Training and CIOB resources on this site.

There is one exam which can be taken in November. It is an Open Book exam covering all 4 modules. This means you can work at home, using all the resources you have available to you and submit within a 10-day time-scale. It is suggested that you pre-plan and book some time off for these exams.

Timing & Duration

Courses start in October, with Exams the following June. We also have a February start classroom course, with exams taking place in November.

Costs

This option is £1590 + VAT for workshop-based and £1490 + VAT for WebEx, plus the following fees paid directly to the CIOB. Ideally allow £100 - £200 for books.

The registration fee to CIOB is £53.00. The Examination fee to CIOB is £371.00.

Our Aim

To provide candidates with a comprehensive coverage of the CIOB's CMP modules plus continued guidance and support throughout the programme including tuition on assignment and exam writing.
