Chartered Membership Programme

The CMP programme is a progression route to full Corporate Membership of the CIOB with the right to use the designation MCIOB. It is designed for candidates who typically have five years’ experience within the built environment, with experience of managing people, processes and technology.

We recognise that there are many people in the sector who have gained the requisite knowledge and management skills to merit CIOB membership, though they may not have the full academic qualifications.

Construction professionals who fall into this category can instead work towards becoming full chartered members (MCIOB) through a structured programme designed to help experienced construction professionals demonstrate their competence. It combines elements of study too, to help candidates develop a strong understanding of the principles of construction management.

Getting Started

Application 

Your first step is to contact Construction Management Training in order to be accepted on to the programme. Once accepted, you will sign a Provider Approval Form which will enable you to apply online with the CIOB for student membership. There is a £496.00 CMP approval/exam fee at this stage paid directly to the CIOB and needs to be paid at least 8 weeks prior to the exam taking place (CIOB will contact you direct when this is due). The Programme

Course Study

The programme requires a period of course study which is undertaken by Construction Management Training via workshop learning. The modules covered are:

• Construction Technology
• Health, Safety and Welfare
• Construction Business Environments
• Management

The CIOB will provide you with access to an on-line learning system called Moodle. You will find all Construction Management Training and CIOB resources on this site.

Attendance of all workshops is mandatory to ensure successful completion of exams. During the course you will submit 4 mock exams onto Moodle, 1 for each of the modules outlined above. Completion of the mock exams is mandatory.

There is one exam which will be taken in June 2027. It is an Open Book exam covering all 4 modules. This means you can work at home, using all the resources you have available to you, and submit within a 10-day timescale. It is suggested that you pre-plan and book some time off for these exams.

Professional Review

The Professional Review is the final stage for anyone wishing to achieve MCIOB status and is the final step after completing the Chartered Membership programme. We will use assessment tools to assess your experience and advise you on completing the PR report.

We offer guidance, support and pre-assessment and CIOB submission of the Professional Review.

Timing & Duration

The course starts in October 2026, with exams taking place in June 2027.

Costs

The cost of our Webex online course is £1,750.00 plus VAT. Ideally, allow £200.00 - £300.00 for books.
